Biography

Prof. R.E. Critoph (UW) is Director of LoT-NET, a £5M heat decarbonisation project ending December 2024. He was appointed by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) to represent the UK on the International Energy Agency (IEA) Heat Pump Annex 43 ‘Fuel driven sorption heat pumps’ and is author of three BEIS reports on gas heat pumps. He managed a £2M investment from Innovate UK for laboratory and equipment improvements at Warwick under the Thermal Energy Research Accelerator scheme. He has worked on heat pump and refrigeration systems since 1982, published over 100 papers (h-index 38), 2 book chapters, 5 patents and managed contracts worth over £20M for industry, government and the EU. Past industrial clients include British Gas, Searle and Unilever.

 

Education/Qualifications:   

D.Sc. (University of Warwick) 2007

Ph.D. (Southampton University) 1973-76. The work was concerned with energy analysis of the UK iron and steel industry together with the forecasting of future demands, steel making technologies and energy trends. As a result of a paper published on this work he was awarded the Institute of Energy Bone-Wheeler Medal in 1978.

1st class hons. B.Sc. in Aeronautical Engineering, 1969-72 (Southampton University).  Awarded the 1972 Royal Aeronautical Society Prize.
