Professional Experience
- More than 35 years of experience in refinery operations and management inside and outside of
Kuwait - President of Kuwait Petroleum International company (KPI) – a 20-billion-dollar company
responsible for the following:- Activities of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) downstream business outside of Kuwait.
- Operation and development of refining and marketing assets in strategic focus areas such as Europe and Asia
- Jet fuel marketing
- Lube oil manufacturing and marketing
- Headed KNPC’s Shuaiba Refinery in the capacity of Deputy Managing Director and executed the
transformation of the refinery into a profitable, reliable refinery with marked improvements in
health, safety and environmental performances.
Selected Achievements Highlight
- Developed and started to execute the refinery and petrochemical complex (NSRP Project) in NGHI
SON – North of Vietnam- Refining capacity of 10 million tons per year with Kuwait export crude
- Developed the project in collaboration with Japanese and Vietnamese partners
- Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) was awarded to an international
consortium - The NSRP is considered as the biggest foreign investment in the history of Vietnam with a
total budget of 9 billion dollars. Financing for the project was secured from international
banks and owners - Developed plans for world class fuel retail stations in Vietnam in collaboration with Japanese
partners
- Developed plans for a refinery and petrochemical project in South China in addition to the
development of fuel retail station networks in China - Development of the project in collaboration with Sinopec from China and Total from France, with a
capacity of 15 million tons per year with a total budget of 12 billion dollars - Obtained all necessary approvals from the Chinses authorities including National Development
Reform Commission (NDRC) - Enhanced the overall performance of KPI by developing a new more focused strategy and entering
into profitable partnerships, acquisitions and re-structuring the company with strong focus on cost
reduction, structured performance enhancement and prioritizing HR issues. - Enhancement of the performance of all aspects of Shuaiba Refinery performance turning it into a
profitable refinery with a marked improvement in reliability, health, safety and environmental (HSE)
performance - Effective contributions towards the enhancement of performance of the oil sector in general and
KNPC in particular in the areas of strategy development. HSE, profitability, development of
competent national manpower and optimum utilization of natural resources
