Biography
Ananda Amarasekara is a Sri Lankan politician and a member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka. He is a member of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna. He was appointed as the State Minister of Rural Housing and Construction and Building Material Industries on 22 July 2022.
Amarasekara was born on 19 April 1974 in Kandy, Sri Lanka. He is the son of former Sri Lankan parliamentarian and minister, S. B. Amarasekara. He was educated at Trinity College, Kandy and the University of Colombo.
Amarasekara began his political career as a member of the Kandy Municipal Council. He was elected to the Parliament of Sri Lanka in 2015 from the Kandy District. He was re-elected in 2020.
Amarasekara is a member of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, which is the ruling party in Sri Lanka. He is a close associate of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
